Alabama Soccer Launches Foundation to Serve Communities Across Alabama
he Alabama Soccer Association (ASA) is pleased to announce the creation of the Alabama Soccer Foundation, an initiative to provide opportunities for Alabamians of all ages to to learn and grow through “The Beautiful Game” of soccer.
The purpose of the Foundation is to nourish the physical, mental, and emotional growth of soccer in Alabama by supporting selected organizations and deserving projects which create opportunities for all ages to enjoy the game regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, economic circumstances, or athletic ability.
“The Foundation will build community, and create healthy lifestyles using soccer as a platform to execute these programs,” says Tom Condone, ASA Executive Director. “This initiative lays out a continuum of support that will foster an environment that is inclusive and not exclusive, as well as affecting positive change at the base of the pyramid.”
The Foundation is intended to be both community-minded and solution-based in order to provide the greatest impact. To accomplish this objective, the Foundation will endeavor to manage and grow an endowment to which funds are donated and invested, thereby creating a perpetual source of financial support for the Foundation’s mission.
The Foundation’s initial focus will be on growing soccer in underserved geographical areas and/or programs supporting those with special needs. Projects are to be needs-based and community driven. The types of projects supported may include, but are not limited to, small equipment, field maintenance/development, mini-pitches, outreach programming, and/or education programming that will serve to support sustainable operations.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Alabama Soccer Association for its foresight in understanding the importance of such a long-term endeavor. This is a major step forward for Alabama’s youth and the game of soccer and will no doubt have a lasting impact for decades to come,” says Jill Hopkins, President of the Alabama Soccer Foundation.
